Delano    400 Eggs

WhatsApp Image 2023-10-02 at 6.38.29 PM.jpeg

400 Eggs is an installation of 400 free-range eggs precisely arranged in a grid on the floor.

Each egg represents the 100,000 one day old male chicks killed every year by the egg production industry - a total of 40 million chicks per year, killed on their first and only day of life. The chicks are either gassed, fed live through a macerater or tossed into garbage bags and left to die.

The careful and respectful positioning of the fragile and delicate eggs on the floor, precariously balanced and delicately handled, forces the viewer into treating the eggs with care - in stark contrast to the industry’s attitude to the chicks.
